Steam Plant & Tunnel
University of Toledo - Toledo, Ohio
In an effort to enhance efficiencies and control costs, the university decided to decommission their old steam plant feeding the entire hospital and build a new steam plant connected to the existing maintenance building.
With the new addition, IPS installed four (4) 600HP boilers, and an 85-ft tunnel underground was installed to tie-in the existing steam piping. Work included all plumbing, HVAC, piping, excavation, carpentry, roofing, controls, and insulation systems.
With a brand-new steam plant addition, UTMC had a backup system, along with an added boiler to the system. The new steam plant was more reliable, and energy-efficient, saving the university money and allowing for a more comfortable environment for staff, students, visitors, and patients.
