Stadium Drive Bridge
The University of Toledo - Toledo, Ohio
The University of Toledo has been monitoring the continuing deterioration of the bridge on Stadium Drive that is the main artery for vehicle and pedestrian traffic through campus. When the University determined that the bridge needed to be replaced, they needed to relocate the 12-inch steam lines, main communication, and IT trunk line that were attached to the bridge in order to demolish the bridge.
IPS was hired to relocate the lines in order to maintain continual service during the bridge construction. The relocation required IPS to build a 100-foot truss bridge across the Ottawa River that weighed 35,000 pounds when fully loaded with pipe and conduit. The project had to be completed in a three-month period with shutdown of the steam and communication systems restricted to one weekend during spring break.
The utility relocation included excavation of utility trenches, installation of a utility vault and taps to the existing steam, communication, and IT systems.
