Rolling Steel Mill
North Star BlueScope - Delta, Ohio
North Star BlueScope Steel is a 50-50 joint venture between BlueScope Steel (Melbourne, Australia) and Cargill, Inc. (Minneapolis, MN). The partnership brings together expertise in electric furnace steelmaking, slab casting, and hot rolling technology in a synchronous flat rolled mini-mill. The steel mill is designed with a unique combination of proven technology to provide our customers with a superior hot-rolled product.
IPS was the prime contractor hand-selected by NSBSL for the installation of all of the underground and above-ground piping for the new rolling steel mill. IPS self-performed fabrication and installation of all piping work, setting of utility system equipment, and installation of miscellaneous electrical work. Several miles of utility header and centerline equipment piping were installed throughout the entire mill – through the melt shop, caster, tunnel furnace, roughing stands, finishing stands, and down coiler areas. IPS was responsible for complete equipment and piping installation services of the utility support systems that included the hydraulic system, grease/lubrication systems, water treatment system, sand filtration system, gas utility systems, waste water system, compressed air, and cooling water systems.
