Furnace Rebuild
Johns Manville - Defiance, Ohio
When Johns Manville (JM) decided to rebuild an existing furnace to increase productivity, they selected IPS to engineer, procure, and construct (EPC) the furnace.
Construction work completed by IPS included mechanical, electrical, structural steel, refractory, batch, process system modification, and commissioning of the rebuilt furnace.
JM knew this project would be challenged by an aggressive schedule and the need to perform. JM chose the EPC contracting approach because it provides a fast-track, turn-key solution. EPC contracting provides owners the advantage of a single, designated point-of-contact for the project-shifting risk to the contractor and compressing the construction schedule, which allows construction to advance during the design process. These benefits ensured that JM could meet the aggressive schedule while maintaining the operation of their other furnaces during construction.
