Naphtha Simplification Process

Sunoco Refinery - Oregon, Ohio

When Sunoco Refinery entered into a consent decree with USEPA in 2006 it agreed to modify its Naphtha process. IPS was chosen as the General Contractor to perform the simplification project.

We were responsible for the installation of all new equipment, which included numerous pumps, vessels, fin fan exchanger and shell/tube heat exchangers. In addition to the new equipment, and existing reactor was refurbished and a new catalyst was installed. Other highlights include demolition of an existing heater and replaced with a new one, installation of burners, burner piping/management system, heater instrumentation, process piping and electrical. Along with the new equipment, IPS was responsible for all of the site preparation, foundations and structural steel.

This project allowed the refinery to expand its ability to process the light end portion of crude and install an additional Naphtha hydrotreater. This increased the refinery‘s production of gasoline and jet fuel.
