Project Scope:

Spartan Steel Coating is a joint venture between Severstal North America and Worthington Industries. Located in Monroe, Michigan, Spartan Steel Coating Company is capable of producing 450,000 tons annually of light gauge hot-dipped galvanized steel, primarily for value-added automotive applications.

IPS was the General Contractor for the construction of the Cooling Water Plant and Furnace Upgrade at the facility.  IPS was responsible for all civil, structural, architectural, electrical, plumbing, process piping, HVAC, and controls for the cooling water plant.  For efficiency modification of an existing hot dip coating line, IPS self-performed white iron erection, piping, electrical, controls, equipment setting, and installation of large ductwork.

Challenges:

The facility needed to remain fully operational throughout construction. IPS worked with plant engineers to schedule each phase of the project and help ensure there were no interruptions to production.
