Project Scope:

Vehtek, a division of Magna International, provides a comprehensive range of body, chassis, and engineering solutions to the automotive industry. The company recently completed a 350,000 SF, multi-phase expansion of their Bowling Green metal forming and stamping facility.  IPS served as the General Contractor on two major phases of the expansion.

Phase II – IPS was commissioned to design and construct a new a 15,000 SF expansion to include a 20-ft-deep press pit and tunnel.  IPS managed construction for site paving, concrete foundations, floors, a pre-engineered metal building, power wiring, and piping. IPS also relocated a 2,000-ton press from an existing plant in Iowa to this new expansion in Bowling Green.

Phase III involved construction of a 50,000 SF high-bay manufacturing facility for 60 robotic welding assembly cells and automotive part manufacturing.  IPS was the design builder on this phase, performing all aspects including site, concrete, mechanical, electrical, and machine installation.

Challenges:

Work was completed while the facility remained fully operational, with careful planning required in order to maintain day to day operations. IPS worked closely with the Owner to provide value engineering solutions that helped the client keep within budget and schedule.

Project Scope:

Autoneum is a globally-leading supplier of acoustic and thermal management materials for automobiles.  The firm develops and produces multifunctional and lightweight components and systems for noise and heat protection necessary for vehicle comfort.  In September 2011, Autoneum began new construction of a 106,500 SF manufacturing facility in Oregon, Ohio.

IPS was contracted to install the presses at the new facility, and to complete the infrastructure associated with the mechanical and electrical systems required for operation of the presses.  Equipment installed by IPS includes:  compressors, dryers, boilers, chillers, economizers, chemical treatment systems, controls, and power wiring.  IPS also installed steam condensate, compressed air, and chilled water piping; and potable, non-potable, and dye-release systems.

Challenges:

Through outstanding team work and time management, IPS was able to have all the process systems operational and functional within a six-week period in order for Autoneum to begin cycling presses for production.  Since completion of this new facility in Oregon, Ohio, Autoneum has now become the only plant in North America that develops and produces the one-of-a-kind lightweight component for vehicles.
