Project Scope:

General Motors Corporation invested $61 million in new technology at its Defiance, Ohio plant to produce aluminum engine blocks in 3.6-liter high-feature V-6 engines. This will be the first application of precision sand casting technology at the plant.

The project included the complete civil, mechanical & electrical engineering design, fabrication, procurement of all equipment, delivery, installation of civil, structural, equipment install, mechanical, electrical, controls and startup of (2) two 80,000 cfm baghouse dust collectors and associated ductwork to collect particulate emissions from the new SPM Castline equipment being installed at the GM Powertrain facility in Defiance, Ohio.

Challenges:

The schedule was compressed due to equipment information delays. IPS worked with GM to accommodate extremely tight working conditions and without disturbing production. Multiple trades where scheduled concurrently to complete work over multiple shutdowns in order to meet schedule.
